Located on the slopes below Chyulu National Park midway between Amboseli and Tsavo parks, away from the heat and malaria, Ol Donyo Wuas Lodge looks up to Kilimanjaro and over the fabulous open savannahs that make Kenya so famous.
In 2008 a knocked down and rebuilt new Ol Donyo Wuas lodge was reborn. Ol Donyo Wuas, in partnership with Great Plains Conservation and the Maasailand Preservation Trust, is forming the core of a new, sustainable model for conservation which ensures protection of the area's wildlife through an innovative sharing-of-benefits scheme with the local community and the creation of conservancies. Many years ago guests would get excited if they saw tracks of elephant passing through camp, however now there are elephants in front of the lodge nearly every day, lion and cheetah concentrations are increasing, while the black rhino populations are secure.
Ol Donyo Wuas Lodge has only ten sumptuous and spacious suites. Eight 'Pool Suites' have private swimming pools while the two 'Standard suites' are similar in design and comfort but without private pools. All bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms with a view, including indoor and outdoor showers and a romantic bath. Above each bedroom is the secluded 'star-beds' sleep-out area upstairs where guests can, on request, have beds set up for the night.
Ol Donyo Wuas has four suites that can be booked out as private villas or family suites so that your friends or family are under one roof, but with ample privacy for all. Along with the booking of all four beds in a two bedroom suite unit will come your own complimentary private guide and vehicle, ensuring that your activities are customised to suit your interests and timings.
Ol Donyo Wuas' guests are treated undoubtedly to the widest variety of activities available at any wildlife lodge in Africa - all of which are included. Many guests often spend a week at Ol Donyo Wuas, only to wish they stayed longer. All the traditional safari activities are on offer, plus much more including day and night game drives in open 4x4 vehicles; guided mountain bike rides across the wildlife filled plains and morning or afternoon game-viewing horseback safaris. Foot safaris and wildlife tracking with our Maasai trackers and interacting with the anti-poaching team with the two resident bloodhounds are activities not to be missed as are visits to remote Maasai villages that offer guests an authentic cultural experience. Sleep-outs under the stars from the 'star-beds' above your bathroom or out on the plains on 'Seduction Rock' will remain with guests' memories forever.
A safari highlight for many are the close up encounters with the enormous elephant bulls that frequent the camp's waterhole just a few meters from the safety of the open-air 'log-jam' hide. Bush breakfasts enjoyed under an acacia tree on the plains, cooked on an open fire are a speciality.
