Mara Plains Camp

One of the most luxurious tented camps in all of Kenya, Mara Plains Camp is hidden among riverine forest on the banks of the Ntiakatek River in the exclusive Olare Orok Conservancy. This conservancy is predator-central thanks to the award-winning conservation efforts from Great Plains Conservation and other participating safari camps resulting in real and generous community uplift of the Maasai villagers, which in turn has restored once previously overgrazed land into prime big-game country.

Guests at Mara Plains Camp have the unique benefit of low-density game viewing in open Land Cruisers in the 40,000 hectare Olare Orok and neighbouring Maasai North Conservancies, as well as being able to access the entire 150,000 hectare Maasai Mara Reserve to the south. During the wildebeest migration season, full day game viewing Maasai Mara Reserve with lavish picnic lunch and refreshments is popular. Guests have no set schedule in terms of activities or meal times and guests can go on a guided game walk or balloon safari (extra cost) in the morning, siesta, visit a local Maasai village, or bird watch beside the river during the heat of the day, and game drive in the late-afternoon and at night. Those hiring a private vehicle and guide also have the benefit of being equipped with quality professional digital SLR cameras with lenses, with a guide on hand to offer advice on taking great photos, all of which will be burned to a disk for a lasting memory of their experience.

The camp itself opened in 2008 and each of the seven octagonal tented suites are raised on decks and have exquisite views over the river and plains beyond from their private verandahs. Ensuite facilities include flush loo, shower and twin vanities with permanent hot water. Access to the camp is across a swing bridge over the river leading to the hub of the camp with its three interconnecting, open-sided Marquis tents under the shade of the trees. Here there are two lounge tents with a small library and a dining tent, all opulently furnished with warm copper, brown and red tones with an ornate chandelier hanging over the dining table. Evening meals, weather permitting, are usually outside under the stars listening to the sounds of the African savannah.

Exceptional guiding, phenomenal game viewing, incredible experiences, and exclusivity, that's what guests will get from a stay at Mara Plains Camp.
