Often described as having some of the most spectacular views in the world, Ravello, perched high on a natural balcony overlooking the Amalfi Coast and Gulf of Salerno, is home to the Hotel Caruso.
This delightful hill resort is set around an 11th century palace with inspiringly beautiful gardens. It also has its own glorious Belvedere Garden complete with an ancient colonnade and a hill top swimming pool. Gore Vidal described the panoramas here as some of ‘the most beautiful in the world’, which were also enjoyed by regulars such as Greta Garbo and Humphrey Bogart. As one would expect of an Orient-Express Hotel, the service is as superb as the vistas.
Its 48 luxurious rooms and suites are beautifully furnished with Neapolitan style furniture that has been exclusively designed for the hotel to create a link to its past, complementing the 18th and 19th century antiques that are scattered throughout. Bathrooms are luxurious to a fault with fluffy bathrobes and beautiful Bulgari and Penhaligon goodies. The overall atmosphere may be of an ancient palazzo but modern facilities abound. Most rooms and suites have a glorious outlook over the sea below and many also have their own private gardens.
Executive Chef, Mimmo Di Raffaele, oversees delicious creations from the three restaurants. There are menus to suit every taste and occasion, although traditional Neapolitan cuisine and regional Italian dishes are the speciality.
If gazing at the never ending horizon from the gardens and pool is not enough, tennis and golf are close by and guests can also go sailing, trekking or take advantage of the daily complimentary boat tours along the Amalfi coast offered by the hotel. There is also a wellness centre offering massages and treatments, as well as a gym. Hotel Caruso’s excellent location is ideal for exploring the car free village of Ravello and the nearby islands of Capri and Ischia.
