The highly original Vedema Resort lies in the vineyards surrounding the picturesque village of Megalohori, minutes away from Santorini's capital, Thira. Inspired architecturally by the 400 year old winery that forms its heart, it is set out like a fortified village with 45 one to three bedroom coloured houses and villas, cobbled walkways and exotic courtyards within its walls.
The air-conditioned accommodation is decorated in a minimalistic yet luxurious style, with shuttered windows, private veranda four poster brass beds and original art. The superb Agean, Olympian and Presidential Villas offer even greater luxury, with private pools and Jacuzzis.
Alcohol is very much a feature of life at this resort, with champagne breakfasts to start the day and wine tasting in the ancient Canava Wine Bar to finish. The vaulted winery provides a beautiful setting for dining on creative Mediterranean cuisine, or there is private dining from set dégustation menus, and traditional Greek fare. Cuban cigars and caviar can also be enjoyed in Mony's Cigar Club.
A complimentary shuttle service will drive you to the beach, you can borrow bicycles or take a private charter. However, with facilities including a small spa, a large swimming pool plus an open-air Jacuzzi, fitness centre, in-house art gallery and jewellery shop, you may not want to leave this perfect base.
