Canary Islands

Offering a warm Gulf Stream climate and splendid beaches, the Canary Islands are the perfect place to escape to during the harsh winter months. It is easy to avoid the crowds and enjoy a luxury break in authentic surroundings.

The landscape of each of the seven Canary Islands is radically different, making them a delight for walkers, nature and beach lovers alike. In the south of Gran Canaria, the third largest but most densely populated island, you will find endless beaches and pretty ports, such as Puerto de Mogan. Otherwise, enjoy duty-free shopping in the northern capital, Las Palmas, take in the Island's highest point, Pozo de Las Nieves in the centre, or visit the un-spoilt west coast and National Park area.

On the larger island of Tenerife, rugged volcanic landscapes and superb botanical gardens are on offer, as are beach resorts, galleries, museums, casinos and an opera house. Pico del Teide, the highest mountain in Spain which can be reached on foot or via Teleférico, provides spectacular views of all of the Canary Islands.

For 'foodies', tiny fishing villages guarantee beautifully fresh fish, including specialties like Sancocho Canario, salted fish in hot sauce.

The Canary Islands apparently gave birth to myth of the Garden of Hesperides, where immortality-giving apples grew. While a holiday here may not make you immortal, it will certainly revive your spirits.
