Situated north of Mombo in a private reserve of nearly 130,000 acres bordering the Moremi Game Reserve, Vumbura Plains is thought to offer the best combination of water and land Big five game viewing anywhere in the Okavango Delta. The area boasts a wonderful variety of habitats and a great diversity of wildlife, including large numbers of Sable Antelope, rarely seen elsewhere in Botswana, plus wetland and savannah species such as red lechwe, waterbuck, crocodile, sable, kudu, wildebeest and tsessebe. Take part in a mokoro 'canoe' ride or boating trip and get the closet to a hippo that you'll ever be without being an egret. Excellent fishing is also available.
Overlooking a vast, attractive floodplain, Vumbura Plains consists of 2 camps each with 7 elevated rooms, sleeping a total of 28 people in large, very comfortable suites. Each room also has a lounge, a "sala", en-suite facilities with indoor and outdoor showers and a private plunge pool. Walkways connect them to the main dining, lounge and bar areas, which are also raised off the ground and tucked beneath a canopy of shady, indigenous trees. Although it has only been open for a year, this place is already a hit with the jet set.
