Every aspect of Abu Camp is magnificent, the setting included. It lies in the western Okavango Delta in a private concession bordering the Moremi Reserve amid riverine forest, open grasslands and clear papyrus-fringed water channels. Six fabulous suites are surrounded by teak decking and furnished with antique mahogany beds, Persian rugs, sofas and armchairs upholstered in glorious fabrics, bathrooms with copper or porcelain baths and the fluffiest towels imaginable. The staff to guest ratio is four to one, Champagne flows at every occasion and outstanding food is served on gleaming silver with crystal and linen. The real attraction is exploring this heavenly corner of Africa by elephant, each is equipped with a comfortable padded saddle and proffers mesmerising close-up views of wildlife, oblivious to their human cargo. Abu Camp also provides superb game viewing from either vehicles, mokoros or on foot. Just across the lagoon from the camp, set in a grove of sycamore fig and ebony trees, is the exclusive use two bedroom Villa Okavango which has a dedicated butler, chef and personal game ranger. Gourmet meals are prepared as and when they are required and all guests’ needs catered to. From the tranquil swimming pool to the high, expansive deck allowing guests to view the quiet lagoon and the surrounding landscape, Villa Okavango ensures that guests can unwind in comfort amid the splendour of the Okavango Delta.
