This is the third largest island in the world and is divided into four areas. The first and second are the Malay states of Sabah and Sarawak forming two distinct regions along its northern coast, the third, the largest part of the island, Kalimantan belongs to Indonesia and the final area, accounting for only one perc ent of the island, is the Sultanate of Brunei.
Famous for the Orang-utan, Borneo is home to a plethora of endangered species, including the Proboscis Monkey, the Borneo Rhino, the Pygmy Elephant as well as the Green and Hawksbill Turtle, all of whom inhabit some of the most untouched wildlife environments in Asia, where diverse tribal communities live off the land and practice ancient ways of life. This is complemented by the stunning beaches, lush tropical rainforest, mountain peaks and vast caves.
