Amankora, Punakha

Accessed via a suspension bridge over the river Mo Chhu, the fabulous Amankora, Punakha lodge is just a short drive north of the grand Punakha Dzong and Puntsho Pelri Palace; the winter residence of His Majesty the King. The lodge compound is centred around the loveliest traditional Bhutanese farmhouse which was in fact originally built as a residence by Her Majesty the Queen Mother in order to oversee the surrounding rice fields and fruit plantations.

This grand building is now the home to the communal areas for guests, including the Dining room on the ground floor and on the upper floors are the relaxation area and a traditional alter room for prayers and meditation. Outside of this building are a further three buildings in the heart of the orange orchard housing the eight most wonderful suites.

From the suites you will be able to enjoy the breath taking views across the rice fields and back up the Punakha Valley. Outdoor dining can also be enjoyed throughout the warmer months in the lodge's courtyard and adjacent to this is the Tea Pavillion, once the kitchen of the summer palace, and finally beyond this is the new and purpose built Spa building offering fabulous treatments to cleanse the mind, body and soul.
