Lying to the east of Punakha, passing through the village of Wangdue Phodrang and climbing past deep ravines onward to the picturesque village of Phobjikha, one of Bhutan's few glacial valleys you will find the lovely rural settlement of Gangtey, home to Amankora Gangtey.
Elevated at 3,000 metres on the western slopes of the Black Mountains this fabulous lodge is positioned on a forested knoll and enjoys panoramic views of the stunning valley and fields of dwarf bamboo and potato crops. The wonderfully designed suites, combined living and dining rooms are all located in one building with a cosy atmosphere to be enjoyed. Floor to ceiling windows provide an opportunity to experience the breath taking scenery from the comfort of the living room's sofas and family style dining tables.
Embarking on some of the most beautiful walking in the surrounding area you may find yourself with the opportunity to view the endangered black-necked crane that migrates from the arid planes of Tibet in the north, to pass the winter months in a milder climate. On retiring back to the lodge you will have the opportunity to indulge in some of the wonderful spa treatments or partake in some yoga or meditation sessions.
