With a backdrop of rolling hills and lush tropical rainforest, Carlisle Bay lies on Antigua’s unspoilt southern coast, along an exquisite Caribbean beach that seems almost too beautiful to be real.
Just a 30 minute drive from the airport, it is very convenient and within easy reach of the capital St John’s and English Harbour. All 82 air-conditioned suites are set within beautifully designed tropical gardens. Ranging from one bedroom junior suites to deluxe three bedroom suites with kitchens, the design and standard of furnishings are superb. Large, luxurious bathrooms, spacious terraces looking directly onto the sparkling sea and up-to-date technology ensure that the highest expectations are not only met, but exceeded.
Health, wellbeing and feeling fantastic are integral to the hotel’s philosophy, hence the exceptional spa, Blue, which offers an excellent range of holistic treatments. Six beautifully appointed treatment rooms include one for couples and a wet room. There is also an open air yoga and pilates pavilion, a state-of-the-art gym, sauna and plunge pools. This healthy approach is continued in the two outstanding restaurants. Both serve terrific food; Indigo on the Beach offers both Caribbean and European dishes, delicious grills, seafood and salads and East presents imaginative pan-Asian cuisine. Neither has a dress code; cool and comfortable is the order of the day. This policy extends to the three bars in which guests can enjoy fabulous cocktails by the beach and evening aperitifs with hors d’oeuvres in the main pavilion.
Also on offer are an air-conditioned screening room that shows consistently good films, a library stocked with genuinely interesting books, nine tennis courts and a host of water sports including sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, scuba diving and snorkelling. With the Cool Kids Club and Crew Blue for children from 6 months to 12 years old (complimentary from 2 years), as well as the action packed Crush teens programme, there is something to suit all.
Cool, chic and contemporary, Carlisle Bay may not be big but it is certainly very clever.
