Fiji

It is a cliché but when you first come to Fiji, ones really will feels as if one has died and gone to heaven. Each of its 320 plus islands, are surrounded by colourful coral reefs and the warm azure waters of the South Pacific, heavenly conditions for diving and snorkelling fans. Towering mountain peaks provide a stunning backdrop to tropical forests, beautiful beaches and obviously its luxury hotels.

Viti Levu and Vanua Levu are the largest islands, with the former hosting the capital, Suva, where you can shop, eat world-class cuisine and enjoy the nightlife. Nature lovers should head to the 'Garden Isle', Taveuni, with its abundant native wildlife and flora, plus the amazing Lake Tagimaucia and Bouma Falls. Its Rainbow Reef and Vuna Reef are also renowned for diving and snorkelling, respectively. Those who also want to have an island all to themselves should head for the one hectare Wadigi, one of the smallest of the Mamanuca Islands where there is also excellent scuba-diving. Alternatively, one can get away from it all on the unspoilt Yasawa, the privately owned Wakaya or the small but perfectly formed Royal Davui.
