Bermuda may just be a speck in the Atlantic Ocean but what a wondrous speck it is. It has it all; beaches, sports (land and sea), shopping and history. It retains a quintessential and engaging charm of yesteryear that belies its boast of being one of the most advanced business centres of the world. This, sometimes forgotten gem, is an island paradise.
Soft sand flecked with pink coral, warm azure waters and more golf courses per square mile than any other nation – this is Bermuda. Although this is the land of the fabled Bermuda Triangle, the only thing that will disappear in this paradise are visitors cares, as the warm welcome of the locals will brighten any stay. Brighten the day by getting a wave from local legend Johnny Barnes as he man’s his morning post at Crow’s Lane waving and blowing kisses to all who pass.
Only 35 kilometres long and 1 kilometre wide (at its widest point) Bermuda is actually an archipelago of 140 islands. Its status as the oldest British colony is emphasised in the naming of its nine parishes after the great English gentlemen adventurers in the court of Elizabeth and later James I, who helped colonise Bermuda. One can wind through Devonshire, Southampton and Warwick while admiring the stunning flora along the way. Get around by taxi, bus or by hiring one of the mopeds which populate the islands as the preferred mode of transport - making sure not to break the speed limit of only 35kph of course.

The multitude of coral that surrounds its shores is a haven for divers, plus it is studded with more than 500 shipwrecks to explore. Bermuda hosts the usual water sports as well as the more unusual caving, helmet diving, Boston Whalers, spear fishing and power boat racing (periodically).
Of the eight golf courses in Bermuda five are public and Port Royal Golf Course, within this rank, is currently home of the PGA Grand Slam of Golf, plus classed as one of the best courses in the world. There is a reason the best sports facilities in over 100 countries use Bermuda grass and here they just call it ‘grass’.
In Bermuda visitors can do as much or as little as they please. Relax on the pink sands of south shore beaches while drinking the local rum specialities of Dark & Stormy or Rum Swizzle, or enjoy one of the many sites and attractions the islands have to offer such as the Royal Naval Dockyard, the Crystal and Fantasy Caves or the fine shopping on the harbour-facing Front Street in the capital town of Hamilton.
This is a place of thriving culture, rich history, exceptional restaurants, outstanding beaches and is nirvana for the soul.
